Reviews Matt, 8th May 2016 (updated 17th Jul 2023)
I first reviewed Banjo in 2016, giving it a 5 star review. I went back many times, always having a great experience. Unfortunately, as with other venues run by Jersey Potteries, their ability to cater for gluten free diets has become almost non-existent. The last time I went to Banjo was in July 2022, there were a few gf items marked on the menu and when I came to order I told our server that I was coeliac. She informed me that those items weren't suitable for me and that the *only* thing suitable was steamed chicken and vegetables (this wasn't even on the menu!). I asked if I could just have a steak but was told that even though that dish is gluten free, that they couldn't get the dish from the kitchen to me without a risk of contaminating it. I've never come across anything like this before and was really perplexed; apparently the risk was that a waiter may touch some bread and then touch my plate. Our server could not offer a solution to this (e.g. washing their hands!) and was only willing to server me the steamed chicken. Bizarrely, they weren't worried about picking up the plate of chicken and contaminating it. So long story short, the gf items on the menu are suspect and the staff (well, our server at least) didn't have a clue what they were doing with respect to allergens. Unfortunately, I've had similarly bad experiences in other Jersey Pottery restaurants; they have gone from being the best GF places on the island to being massive disappointments. Oh well. Excellent food, great service, good knowledge of gluten free issues Disclaimer: This place has been added by our community as somewhere that offers gluten free stuff. However, sometimes people make mistakes or things change; always check that your food / drink / whatever is gluten free before sticking it in your mouth.
